Unlike traditional chili, this version lightens things up with lean ground turkey and adds a naturally sweet twist with sweet potatoes. The combo of smokey spices, beans and veggies makes a perfect one-pot meal that’s both healthy and delicious!

Ingredients You’ll Need 

  • 1 pound ground turkey 
  • 1 small onion, chopped 
  • 1 large sweet potato, peeled & cubed 
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced 
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced 
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained, rinsed 
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes 
  • 1 cup low sodium chicken broth 
  • 1 tbsp chili powder 
  • 1 tsp cumin 
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika 
  • ½ tsp cinnamon 
  • salt and pepper to taste 
  • 1 tbsp olive oil 

How to Make It 

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Saute for 3-4 minutes. 
  2. Add ground turkey, breaking it up, and cook until browned. 
  3. Stir in spices, coating the meat and veggies. 
  4. Add sweet potato, beans, tomatoes, and broth. Bring to a boil. 
  5. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer 25-30 minutes (until sweet potatoes are tender). 
  6. Serve hot with toppings! 

Serving Ideas 

  • For some extra flavor: top with cilantro or shredded cheese.
